The idol of Lord Varaha is believed to have come from heaven, initially worshipped by Sage Kapil and then Indra.

Lord Rama brought the idol to Ayodhya after defeating Ravana, who had seized it from Indra.
•
Shatrughna brought the idol to Mathura after defeating Lavanasura and installed it, establishing the temple.
•
Performing 11 circumambulations (parikrama) at the temple is believed to grant the reward of circumambulating the entire Earth.
