Global Food Prices Rise After 5-Month Decline; Vegetable Oil Up, Sugar Down

Global Food Price Index rose to 125.3 points in February, ending a five-month decline, though still 22% below March 2022 record.
•
Vegetable oil prices saw the sharpest increase (3.3%), reaching their highest level since June 2022 due to supply-demand shifts.
•
Cereal prices, including wheat (1.8%) and rice (0.4%), also increased, driven by adverse weather risks and Black Sea logistics issues.
•
Sugar prices sharply declined by 4.1% in February, reaching their lowest level since October 2020.
•
FAO estimates record global cereal production of 3.029 billion metric tons in 2025, ensuring sufficient stock with a 31.9% stocks-to-use ratio.
