USS Tripoli with 2,000 Marines Deploys to Middle East Amid US-Iran Tensions

•The USS Tripoli, carrying over 2,000 Marines, is deploying to West Asia amidst rising tensions near the Strait of Hormuz.
•Satellite images showed the USS Tripoli and two escort ships traveling southwest across the South China Sea on March 15.
•The deployment includes personnel from the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), a rapid-response force from Okinawa, Japan.
•These Marines will augment an existing US military presence of over 50,000 troops in West Asia.
•President Donald Trump denied sending troops to the Middle East on March 19, stating, "I'm not putting troops anywhere."
