344 Elephants Dead in Odisha in 4 Years: Forest Minister Reveals Shocking Data

•Odisha Forest Minister Ganesh Ram Singkhuntia reported 344 wild elephant deaths from April 2022 to March 10, 2026.
•Causes include poaching (23 deaths) and accidents (15 deaths).
•Dhenkanal district recorded the highest deaths with 53, followed by Keonjhar (42) and Mayurbhanj (39).
•Elephant deaths by financial year: 93 in 2022-23, 66 in 2023-24, 105 in 2024-25, and 80 in current FY (till March 10).
•Measures taken include anti-poaching camps, foot patrolling, AI monitoring, anti-depredation squads, and public awareness.
