344 Elephants Dead in Odisha in 4 Years: Forest Minister Reveals Shocking Data

Odisha Forest Minister Ganesh Ram Singkhuntia reported 344 wild elephant deaths from April 2022 to March 10, 2026.
•
Causes include poaching (23 deaths) and accidents (15 deaths).
•
Dhenkanal district recorded the highest deaths with 53, followed by Keonjhar (42) and Mayurbhanj (39).
•
Elephant deaths by financial year: 93 in 2022-23, 66 in 2023-24, 105 in 2024-25, and 80 in current FY (till March 10).
•
Measures taken include anti-poaching camps, foot patrolling, AI monitoring, anti-depredation squads, and public awareness.
