Kolkata Housing Market Slows: Registrations Down 41% in January 2026

•Kolkata Metropolitan Area (KMA) residential property registrations declined by 41% in January 2026 compared to January 2025.
•A total of 3,052 residential units were registered in January 2026, down from 5,134 in January 2025 and 5,571 in December 2025.
•Experts attribute the slowdown to a typical post-December rush dip, not a permanent drop in demand.
•Demand for mid-sized flats (501-1,000 sq ft) increased significantly, accounting for 59% of registrations.
•South Zone led sales with a 43% share, followed by North Zone with 33%, driven by affordable and mid-segment housing.
