BMC FDs at ₹81,134 Cr; Pension Fund Safe: Minister Samant Assures Council
•Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's (BMC) fixed deposits (FDs) currently stand at ₹81,134 crore, Maharashtra Minister Uday Samant informed the Legislative Council.
•Samant assured that the Pension Fund (₹3,949 crore) and Future Sustenance Fund (₹5,853 crore) will remain untouched.
•He noted BMC's FDs peaked at ₹91,990 crore in 2022 and criticized the previous administration for lack of infrastructure work.
•The minister responded to an Opposition motion regarding BMC's functioning under a state-appointed administrator from 2022 to 2026.
•Shiv Sena (UBT) members alleged that breaking FDs put the Pension Fund in danger, a claim Samant refuted.
