Census 2027: Head of Household Sex to Include Transgender; Fully Digital, Caste Data Included

•Census 2027 will record the sex of the head of household under three categories: male, female, and transgender.
•Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai informed the Rajya Sabha that the census will be conducted in two phases.
•The first phase (Houselisting) collects housing details and head's sex; the second phase (Population Enumeration) will capture individual details.
•Citizens can opt for self-enumeration via an online portal, but data will be verified by enumerators; strong data safeguards are in place.
•The Union Cabinet approved ₹11,718 crore for the fully digital census, which will include caste enumeration for the first time.
