In the 2024-25 financial year, these states accounted for the majority of the country's whisky consumption, driven by factors such as urbanisation, tourism, state policies, and evolving consumer preferences. Delhi Extends Current Excise Policy for a Year; Retail Licences to be Renewed

•Delhi government extends existing excise regime for one year due to pending work on a new liquor policy.
•The excise department's order on Tuesday approves renewal and grant of new retail liquor licences for 2026-27 under current terms.
•This extension applies to various licence types including L-6, L-10, L-14, and L-23, continuing from previous years.
•Separate circulars will be issued for retail licences covering IMFL, foreign liquor, beer, and country liquor.
•The current policy, in effect since 2022-23, continues after a previous reformative policy involving private players was scrapped.
