Modi government plans to re-extract gold from 33 million tonnes of waste (tailings) at Kolar Gold Fields (KGF) in Karnataka.

The Parliamentary Standing Committee suggested monetizing these tailings, currently under Bharat Gold Mines Limited (BGML).

Mining operations at KGF ceased in 2001, but new technology can efficiently process tailings to recover remaining gold.
