India to Build First Underwater Road Tunnel in Assam, Joins Global Elite

India's first underwater road tunnel approved for Assam, connecting Gohpur and Numaligarh.

The 15.79 km road-cum-rail tunnel under the Brahmaputra River will be the first in India and second globally.

Project cost is Rs. 18,662.02 crores, aiming to boost strategic security and cut travel time.

The tunnel will join famous underwater tunnels like Japan's Seikan Tunnel and the UK-France Channel Tunnel.

Other notable tunnels include Tokyo Bay Aqua-Line, Marmaray Tunnel, Ryfast Tunnel, Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge Tunnel, and Eurasia Tunnel.
